East Los Angeles College

Los Angeles Community College District
Los Angeles, California

Students at the East Los Angeles College (ELAC) now have a go-to gathering space on campus since the completion of the new Student Services Center & Bookstore.

Located centrally on the campus, the 57,000 sq. ft. student services center will open onto a future quad that will facilitate outdoor programming, dining, and vendor space.

The structural steel moment framed and metal stud exterior surrounds a three-story atrium that filters natural light and ventilation throughout the building. Students will pass through the open lobby several times a day on their way to the cafeteria, auditorium, and multi-purpose rooms also housed in the new center.

Our team joined Ehrlich Architects on the project after the firm won a competition held by the client. An early adopter of LEED, the Los Angeles Community College District requires that all new buildings are LEED-certified and produce 10% renewable energy. ELAC is targeting LEED Gold certification.
