Art Gallery of Alberta
Edmonton, Alberta
Designed by world-renowned architect Randall Stout, this $88 million building features exquisite open concept windows highlighted by a distinctive stainless steel curtain wall with painted zinc components. The four-story renovation and addition to the existing gallery incorporates 85,000 sq. ft. of new space, a new entry lobby, great hall, and a multi-purpose 150-seat auditorium named the Ledcor Theatre.

Constructed using innovative Building Information Modeling (BIM) software, Ledcor was able to use real-time dynamic modeling techniques to increase productivity in design and construction. BIM technology creates a digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a facility prior to construction. The resulting 3D model becomes a shared resource to support decision making from the earliest conceptual stages, through to design and construction.

The Art Gallery of Alberta was the recipient of Alberta Construction Magazine’s Top Project Award for innovation in design and named Project of the Year by Edmonton Construction Association. The Gallery also went on to win the Architectural Award at the Alberta Steel Design Awards of Excellence.
